Choosing the Perfect Grey For Your Kitchen

Move over, white kitchen cabinets! Grey is the new most popular go-to color for homeowners! With so many different tones, grey cabinets can skew warm or cool, making it a diverse choice for any countertop and backsplash.

Today we're jumping in to explore all the different kinds of grey tones you can use to get a contemporary kitchen space, a farmhouse kitchen or anything in between! Because grey is just that diverse.

Light or Dark Grey?

This is mostly dependent on whether your space is small or large and whether it has lots of natural lighting or very limited lighting. For smaller spaces, go for a lighter grey, while a darker grey will make a bold statement in a large kitchen.

Warm or Cool Grey?

Greys can have red, yellow or blue undertones. Blue undertones = steely grey. Red undertones = taupe grey. The best way to determine which undertone is best for your space is to get paint chips and tape them against your backsplash or wall and observe how the light bounces off of it at different times during the day.

Painted or Stained?

This is ultimately a personal visual preference on whether you want some grain to show through or want a completely opaque look. Are you looking for a crisp, contemporary look or a rustic, farmhouse one? Painted cabinets align better with the contemporary look, while stained cabinets are more reminiscent of a farmhouse one.

Pairing with Countertops

Because grey works with most colors, you can choose almost any type of countertop and backsplash and it will compliment your cabinets well. Stones like granite, marble and quartz are especially popular because of the grey veining and flecks.

Two Tone Look

Looking to mix things up? Go for the two tone cabinet look. Since grey goes with almost any color, you can choose to pair them with stained mahogany, butter yellow or even ivory! The possibilities are endless.

That's it folks! That's how to incorporate the perfect grey into your kitchen. Let us know if you decide to try some of these out! Don't forget to check out our grey cabinet offerings as well.
